College Counseling

“College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won.”

– Frank Sachs, former president of the National Association for College Admission Counseling

Northwood School’s college counseling mission is to provide a logical sequence of application procedures that culminate with a choice of acceptances that fit well with the student’s objectives. The foundation of our school’s approach to college counseling is knowing each student well, understanding the higher education environment in which they will excel, and finding the school at which they can pursue their goals with the best chance of success.

Northwood’s college counseling program includes four professionals dedicated to supporting students and their families through the college search and application process. Families are informed and involved at every stage: parents are able to follow and assist students throughout the college search in cooperation with the college counselor. Northwood utilizes the latest technology throughout our college counseling program, including Naviance’s Family Connection and offers optional SAT preparation courses for its students .

Northwood believes that the college admission process is an important stage of development for our maturing young adults. For most teenagers, the college planning and application process requires never-before undertaken amounts of self-reflection, organization, planning, re-writing, risk-taking and general discomfort. College counseling staff support, guide, and encourage the student through this important life stage.

Northwood School uses Score to help manage the college admission process for our students. Take a moment to review Northwood’s School Profile below.
