Northwood School’s Leadership, Engage, Apply, and Perform (L.E.A.P.) Program takes students and faculty out of the classroom and lets them engage in collaborative, first-hand academic experiences. Students choose a LEAP project near the beginning of the year. Then, they meet several times during the year to explore their topic, and in May, they leave the classroom for a week to focus on their project.

Students work with experts in the fields related to their areas of inquiry, and they have the unparalleled chance toto explore compelling environments and work toward ambitious objectives as they complete their LEAP projects. These learning experiences help students develop the skills and confidence that will allow them to succeed in the face of future real-world challenges.

The computer programming and robotics programs at our boarding school transform students from passive users to active creators. Through introductory and applied courses and participation in a robotics co-curricular option, students learn engineering, design, coding, and programming concepts essential to a variety of fields. 

They then employ these concepts to design, fabricate, wire, and program functioning robots. Northwood’s Entrepreneurial Studies course provides students with the knowledge and experience to transform a passion project into a successful business. In addition to gaining a better understanding of economic theory, Entrepreneurial Studies students learn the common traits of successful enterprises from small businesses to multinational corporations, as they develop their own business plans and work with local businesses to execute their entrepreneurial visions. 

Just as the science programs at our boarding school are not restricted to future scientists, our entrepreneurial programs are designed to benefit students who plan to go into business as well as those who expect to pursue other career paths. Regardless of our students’ long-term goals, entrepreneurial education helps them learn how to identify problems and apply creative solutions to real-world challenges. In this program, students develop critical life skills such as teamwork, empathy, and negotiation, preparing them to navigate an uncertain future across all types of careers and disciplines. In our boarding school’s Innovation and Design program, Northwood School students start with independent research and use class sessions to identify potential projects. Then, they learn methods of evaluating existing research and information, conceive solutions, test their ideas through prototypes, and ultimately develop innovations that take action to resolve real-world problems. 

With help from visiting experts, our Innovation and Design students also learn how design can lead to entrepreneurial opportunities. This program gives dreamers and makers the skills to bring their ideas from concept to reality.
