Stephen Mallaro
Head Coach Boys’ Prep Hockey

Stephen is a 2006 graduate of Northwood School. He was the team captain on the first team to reach 40 wins under coach Mark Morris. Stephen has had an extensive coaching career following a successful collegiate career at Oswego State University and minor pro career. He began coaching at Manhattanville College, earning a master’s degree in Sport Business Management. He then joined the College at Brockport for two seasons before being hired at King’s College as the first head coach in program history. Most recently, Stephen was the head coach at the Albany Academy Prep School.
Dylan Giacin
Assistant Coach Boys’ Prep Hockey

Dylan is from St. Louis, Missouri, and is a graduate from Culver Academies in 2017. Following his time at Culver, Dylan went on to play three seasons of junior hockey in Syracuse and Utica, NY, as well back home in St. Louis. He then attended Lake Forest College, where he graduated in 2024 with a degree in Data Science: Statistics and a double minor in Economics and Psychology. While at Lake Forest College, he began his coaching career as the Undergraduate Assistant Coach during the 2020-21 season. Upon graduation, Dylan accepted the role as Video Coordinator for the Bemidji State University Men’s Hockey Team for the 2024-2025 season. Dylan now lives on campus and is enjoying his new home in Lake Placid.
Jeff Miller
Head Coach Boys’ 18U AAA Hockey

Born and raised in the Boston area, Jeff attended Reading Memorial High School before embarking on a post graduate year at Phillips Andover Academy. Jeff went on to attend Dartmouth College, where he was a four-year letterman and assistant captain of the ice hockey team. Jeff graduated in 1990 with a B.A. in History.
After playing professional hockey in Europe, Jeff pursued a career in finance where he worked for JPMorgan, FBR Capital Markets, and Guggenheim Partners. Jeff also coached hockey as the assistant coach for Reading High School and as a head coach in the New England Fall Prep School League. Jeff joined the Northwood School’s faculty in 2018 and assumed the Director of Financial Aid responsibilities in 2020. In addition to his work in the admission office, Mr. Miller is a teacher in the Peak Pathways, Finance program and coaches the Boys’ 18U team.
Tommy Spero
Assistant Coach Boys’ 18U AAA Hockey

Originally from Larchmont, New York, Tommy joins Northwood School for his first season as a boys’ hockey coach. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he serves as the Weekend Activities Coordinator, Dorm Parent, and Student Advisor, contributing to Northwood’s mission of developing well-rounded student-athletes both on and off the ice. Tommy is also engaged to Franny Gerardi, who coaches the women’s 19u program at Northwood.
Before arriving at Northwood, He played junior hockey in California and Maine, experiences that deepened his passion for the game and his understanding of athlete development. Over the past five years, he has worked as a skills coach with Erik Nates Euro Hockey, specializing in skating, shooting, and overall player performance.
Most recently, he served as an assistant coach for the Manhattanville University women’s hockey team, where he supported the program in both player development and team strategy. He is currently completing his bachelor’s degree in Business at SUNY Canton.
Shawn Lynch
Head Coach Boys’ 16U Hockey

Shawn is a 2013 graduate of Northwood School. Following his time at Northwood, Shawn went on to play two seasons of junior hockey in Ottawa, ON. He then attended Utica College, where he graduated in 2019 with a degree in Business-Economics. In 2020, he began his coaching career at West Genesee High School in Camillus, NY, following a season playing minor pro hockey. Shawn moved on to coach the junior hockey program in Utica, NY, before accepting the Assistant Coach position at Lake Forest College for the 2022-2023 season. Shawn now lives on campus with his wife, Gianna, and their daughter, Sofia.
Justin Felhaber
Assistant Coach Boys’ 16U Hockey

Justin is a proud Northwood alum (Class of 2014) from Pembroke, Ontario and will be teaching English and coaching hockey. After playing junior hockey for three years with the Pembroke Lumber Kings in the CCHL, he attended Hamilton College in Clinton, NY (Class of 2021). Justin received a B.A. in English Literature and served as a captain of the Men’s Hockey Team during his time at Hamilton. Away from the classroom and the rink, he spends his free time playing guitar, golfing, and hiking with friends.
