Located in the Olympic Winter Village of Lake Placid in the heart of New York State’s Adirondack Mountains, Northwood provides the ideal setting for academic rigor, and extraordinary opportunities for athletic competition and recreational outdoor pursuits.
The site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games, Lake Placid village hosted the 2023 World University Games, also known as the FISU Games (Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire), from January 12-22. Some 2,500 athletes and coaches, representing over 30 nations, participated in this festival of sport, culture, music and food – and importantly, $200 million was invested to upgrade all athletic venues, including the Olympic Center where Northwood’s hockey teams practice and compete, Whiteface Mountain, the school’s alpine training site, and the Olympic Complex at Mt Van Hoevenberg where our Nordic, Luge and Biathletes train.
