Northwood School Admission

The Northwood Difference

Northwood School, located in the Lake Placid, New York, provides students with well-rounded educational experiences, allowing them to find success in college and beyond. As an independent prep school in upstate New York, we offer a trimester-based college preparatory curriculum for students grades nine (9) through twelve (12), plus a post-graduate year. The student body is comprised of 190 students from around the country and the world, eighty-five percent of whom live on campus as boarding students.

Our student to faculty ratio is 5:1, with an average class size of 10 students. With smaller class sizes, our teachers are able to provide the extra support that is expected from private boarding schools. In addition to our traditional college prep curriculum, we offer several Signature Academic Programs such as our L.E.A.P. program, an Entrepreneurial Studies course, and an Innovation & Design program. Beyond the classroom, Northwood offers students competitive athletic programs and co-curricular programs in arts, music, outdoor recreation, and community service.

Since Northwood is located within the Adirondack Mountains, students have unique opportunities to engage with the natural world and incorporate it their educational program. Mountain Day, a long-standing Northwood School tradition, sends our faculty and students up the mountains for a day of exploration and exercise during one of the most beautiful times of the year, fall. Problem-solving, compassion for others, teamwork, and appreciation for the Earth are just a few of the life lessons that this unique experience teaches our students.

Northwood School is unlike any other private boarding school in the United States. Its location is breathtakingly beautiful and its educational experiences set students up for lifelong success, not to mention a lifetime of memories. Still not sure if Northwood School is the right private school for you? We invite you to schedule a visit to our campus today!

We Look Forward to Meeting You!

The best way to experience our private boarding school is in person. When you arrive, a Northwood student will lead your family on a campus tour. Our student tour guides provide a first-hand perspective on daily life, school facilities, and academic programs. During the campus visit, each prospective student participates in an admission interview with a representative from our admission office. Upon request, the admission office can coordinate meetings with program directors in your area of interest as schedules allow. Each campus visit runs approximately two and a half hours.

Call today or send us an inquiry form to arrange a campus tour.
